Each year, I attend Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven (Netherlands) and I’m excited to share my experiences with you.

A Diverse Showcase of Creativity

Dutch Design Week, held annually in Eindhoven, transforms the city into a vibrant hub of artistic expression. Spread across various locations, the event offers a dynamic blend of art, product design, interior design and much more. One of my stops was at ‘Sectie-C’, an eclectic space showcasing diverse artistry and craftsmanship. Additionally, my first time at ‘Piet Hein Eek. This venue exhibited exquisite furniture and design elements that left a lasting impression.

Exploring Unique Exhibits

At ‘Piet Hein Eek’, I encountered ‘Lino Undercover – The Hidden Side of Linoleum’, an eye-opening exhibition hosted by RENS x TARKETT. This showcase delved into the intricate facets of Linoleum, a natural and sustainable material. They presented Linoleum in innovative ways, for example cutting out sections and utilising the backside or scraping parts to craft new patterns. This inventive approach was born from a material research. They emphasised the versatility of these pieces, telling how they could be repurposed for various uses like carpets, blinds, table runners, and more.

Another compelling exhibit at ‘Sectie-C’, curated by Naomi Remijn, shed light on the fast fashion industry. Remijn emphasised the significance of prioritising craftsmanship over mechanisation, fostering a profound connection to the products we create and consume.

The Experience

The event’s organisation ensured a seamless experience. From convenient car rides (this year provided by Renault) to the option of renting bikes, attendees had diverse transportation choices. Detailed maps guided our journey, revealing the destinations waiting to be explored.

Most exhibitions had a representative ready to answer questions, enhancing the overall experience. As always, there was too much to explore in just one day. I would recommend going multiple days.

A Blend of Creativity and Connection

Dutch Design Week, lasting for nine exciting days, showcases endless creativity and teamwork. It serves as a hub where designers, exhibitors, and enthusiasts come together, exchanging ideas and form meaningful connections.

Beyond its role as a showcase for new designs, the event fosters an environment where creative minds unite, enriching the industry as a whole.
